This CD combines tracks from Kandia Kouyate's first two LPs, recorded in 1981 & 1984. Guede, Mayomba & Saradigan were recorded with the Ensemble Instrumental Du Mali, the others were produced by Amary Daou and arranged by Boncana Maiga, described in the sleevenotes as "the most Cubanese of Malian musicians". According to the sleevenotes, the first 5 tracks were "mostly" recorded in Paris in 1999 with overdubs in Bamako, "Samara" was recorded in Abidjan in 1984 and the last track, "Yolele", is an epic 14-minute praise song recorded in Bamako in 1981.
